Profhilo is for skin that has gone a bit flat and dry, rather than skin that has lost shape. It will not restructure your face, and it is not meant to.
What it is
Profhilo is a stabilised, high-concentration hyaluronic acid. Unlike filler, it is not designed to hold a shape. It is formulated to spread under the skin after injection.
It is placed at a small number of set points on each side of the face, chosen because they are anatomically safer and allow the product to disperse evenly.
The standard course is two sessions, four weeks apart. Many people then have a single session once or twice a year.
It is aimed at hydration and overall skin quality. If what is bothering you is volume loss or a change in facial structure, Profhilo is not the right tool, and I will say so.
Who it suits, and who it does not
It may suit you if
- Your skin feels dry, dull or a little slack in texture.
- You want an overall freshening rather than a change in shape.
- You would rather avoid anything that alters your facial structure.
- You are in good general health, and not pregnant or breastfeeding.
It is not for you if
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have an active skin infection or inflammation in the area.
- You are expecting a lifting or volumising effect. It does not do that.
- You want a result in time for an event next week. The course runs across four weeks and builds gradually.
At the consultation
- We assess your skin quality and talk about what you are hoping will change.
- I take a full medical history.
- We discuss whether Profhilo, a different skin booster, polynucleotides or something else fits your concern best.
- We agree the plan and cost, with a minimum of 72 hours before the first session.

On the day
- The face is cleansed and numbing cream applied if you would like it.
- The product is injected at a small number of set points on each side of the face.
- A session usually takes around 30 minutes including preparation.
- Small raised bumps at each point are expected. They typically settle within a few hours.
Aftercare and recovery
- Keep the area clean and leave makeup off for the rest of the day.
- Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas, steam rooms and very hot environments for 24 hours.
- Try not to press, rub or massage the area unless you have been told to.
- Some swelling, tenderness or small bruises are normal and settle over a few days.
- The small raised bumps at each injection point usually settle within a few hours.
- Your second session is normally four weeks later. The effect builds across both.
You are not left on your own afterwards. If anything does not feel right (pain that is unusual or increasing, significant colour changes in the skin, or anything that simply worries you), contact me straight away rather than waiting. Being able to reach the medical professional who treated you is the whole point of being medically led.

Common questions
Is Profhilo a filler?
Not in the usual sense. It is hyaluronic acid, like most fillers, but it is formulated to spread under the skin rather than hold a shape. It is aimed at skin quality, not structure.
How many sessions do I need?
The standard course is two, four weeks apart. After that, many people have a single session once or twice a year, but we would decide that once we see how your skin responds.
When will I see a difference?
Gradually, usually over the weeks following the second session. It is not an immediate treatment, and anyone promising that is overselling it.
Does it hurt?
There are a small number of injection points rather than many, which most people find easier than they expect. Numbing cream is available.
What is the downtime?
Minimal. You will have small raised bumps at each injection point for a few hours, and occasionally a small bruise. Most people go back to normal the same day.
Profhilo or polynucleotides: which one?
They work differently and suit different concerns. Profhilo is largely about hydration across the face; polynucleotides are aimed at skin repair and are often chosen for the under-eye. We decide at the consultation, based on your skin rather than on what is fashionable.
Can I have it with filler?
Often yes, but not usually in the same appointment. We would plan the order and spacing at your consultation.
